Camzyos (mavacamten) is a prescription drug that works to treat obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) by relaxing your heart muscle, allowing it to pump blood more easily.

Doctors prescribe Camzyos to treat obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) that’s causing symptoms. HCM is a heart condition that causes the walls of your heart muscle to thicken, making it harder for your heart to pump blood. (“Obstructive” means the condition reduces blood flow from your heart to the rest of your body.)

Camzyos belongs to a class of medications called cardiac myosin inhibitors. Its mechanism of action (how it works) is by blocking the activity of a certain protein that helps your heart muscle contract (squeeze). By blocking this protein, Camzyos relaxes your heart muscle. This helps ease the symptoms of obstructive HCM.

Camzyos starts working right after you take your first dose. But it may take weeks or even months for your HCM symptoms to start easing. In clinical trials, many people with obstructive HCM had fewer symptoms within 30 weeks of starting Camzyos treatment.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist to learn more about how Camzyos works and how long you can expect it to take to start easing your HCM symptoms.
