Yes, Wegovy is available in a pill form. Originally, it was only available as a weekly injection, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a daily tablet version in December 2025.

The tablets come in four different strengths: 1.5 milligrams (mg), 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg.

They contain semaglutide, the same active ingredient found in the injectable version. Semaglutide can help people lose weight and protect their heart health.

Wegovy tablets are currently approved for adults with obesity or overweight who have at least one weight-related medical condition, like high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

The FDA has also approved the tablets to help reduce the risk of major heart problems, including heart attack and stroke, in adults who have cardiovascular disease and excess weight.

Unlike the injectable version, the tablets have not yet been approved for use in children or adolescents.

You take the tablet by mouth once a day.

Steps for taking the pill:

  • Take it in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of water (no more than 4 ounces).
  • After taking it, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications.

Studies have shown that the pill version of Wegovy is highly effective for weight loss.

In a clinical trial called OASIS 4, people who took a 25 mg dose of oral semaglutide lost an average of nearly 14% of their body weight over 64 weeks. This was significantly better than the group that took a placebo (a dummy pill), who only lost about 2% of their weight.

People taking the pill also saw improvements in their physical function and other health markers.

Medical Perspective

“While many people will experience weight loss [on GLP1 medications], some will experience minimal effects. This can be due to factors like lifestyle, how the individual person’s body responds to GLP-1s, and even the GLP-1 used.”

Like the injection, the Wegovy pill should be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. The side effects are also similar to the shot.

The most common issues are stomach-related, such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain. The product label also carries a serious warning about the risk of thyroid tumors, which was seen in animal studies, so people with a family history of certain thyroid cancers should not take it.
